I am running Windows 7 (64-bit). I installed software 1 week ago for the first time. At the time of first installation, I selected "BOINC + VirtualBox 4.3.12".
It requested that I add a project, so I choose one. ("FightNeglectedDiseases@Home" - I think). I even selected a team. After setting the Account Manager up, I started looking around more online. I noticed that our project had a message that they didn't have any items at the moment; I wanted to see BOINC run...so I deleted the project.

I was not able to add a new project because the "Add Project" button had turned into "Synchronize". After an hour or so, I gave up on waiting and started shutting down windows. That is when I notice the window stating that the VirtualBox installation failed.

I tried to reinstall the BOINC + VirtualBox 4.3.12, and again the VirtualBox failed. I have checked my firewall settings, and ensure that this is running as an Administrator.

But the "Synchronize" button is still there, and now I have no project at all. What do I need to do to be able to add a project?

You added a project through an account manager so you should also remove that project through the account manager. The account manager takes over from BOINC Manager in respect to what you want to do with activities with projects, add, remove, suspend.

After you removed the project through the account manager, synchronize and that should reset your BOINC Manager to normal, since the account manager doesn't have any projects associated with it anymore.

Thank you.

Maybe I am missing something. I don't see my accounts linked to any project either in the BOINC Manager, nor in any of the online areas (BAM! or BOINC online).

I have created an account with the Find@Home project. But they don't have me linked to anything either (0 effort recorded for their project).

Is there somewhere I need to look for a separate 'Account Manager'? Is there a file stored on my PC that might point to where to look?

The only success I had was with the very first installation, after that, everything appears empty.

You said in your first post
After setting the Account Manager up,
So you ought to know which account manager you used. BAM! or Grid Republic.
To remove a project that you added to BOINC through an account manager, you have to remove the project from the account manager and then synchronize that information with BOINC.

Since account managers are third party web sites, if you want to know how to remove a project from the account manager, you'll have to read its FAQs or ask on its forums. Or wait until someone with knowledge passes by here and post that information. I don't know.

Yes, when I set this up, I selected to use BAM. The BAM site has 3 projects linked to my account.

The BOINC Manager on my computer, is stuck on Synchronize. It is not pulling in any of the 3 projects set up on BOINC. It also does not allow me access to Add Project button in simple view. In advanced view, the interface would allow me to locally add a project - but that defeats the purpose of setting up BAM.

- I have gone through every project listed on BAM looking for any old accounts associated with my email. There are only 3 (1 was old). For these I have updated my password to match so that all accounts can validate. (no change in behavior)
- I have removed each account using BAM, and then re-added. (after re-selecting BAM to add the 3 projects enabled in BAM - the screen again says I have no projects but the button is 'Synchronize' no matter how many times I push that.)
- I have removed BAM as my account manager locally at least twice and re-added (no change in behavior)
- I have renewed my CPID with BOINC Stats. (no change in behavior)
