I was thinking about installing Windows 10 "Tech Preview" to see if Boinc would accept working with it. Both would be 64bit versions. Pre-installation information says applications that are working now in Windows 8.1 should generally be working with that Tech Preview also. So, is there something special I should know before going any further with this experiment? Any non-avoidable problems waiting right behind the first corner? |

So, is there something special I should know before going any further with this experiment? Any non-avoidable problems waiting right behind the first corner? I'm crunching on Win10 64 bit "TechPrev" without problems.... |

I installed "Tech Prev" last night and now there's Boinc client 7.4.22 crunching in it. I was curious to see how much more usable computing power this modern OS would dig out of my old hardware, which has temporarily been running a 32-bit XP. Hardware, bios, speed settings and everything but the OS remained unchanged all the time. I setup both Windows to run pretty minimal amount of any additional services etc. and then run the "measurement moments" as identical way as I could. Here are the results, if anyone is interested: XP SP3 32-bit * measured floating point speed - 4234 * measured integer speed - 8722 "Tech Prev" 64-bit * measured floating point speed - 4861 * measured integer speed - 11424 I'll install also the next upcoming Ubuntu 64-bit version in near future to see how it will end up with those numbers. |
