I'm new, I have Seti@home running, but I want to make sure that it is taking full benefit of the 8 cores and 2 GPU's I have on here. Talan |

The most basic way is to go into the BOINC manager, and check the running tasks. You may have to switch to Advanced view if you don't see a tabbed window, under the View menu. For CPU tasks, the status should just be "Running", for GPU tasks it will show something like "Running (0.5 CPUs + 1 ATI GPU)" according to your GPU type. I don't have any personal experience running multiple GPUs, but I think you need to edit one of the config files to make use of them both--have a look in the GPU board if you don't have two running GPU units, it's a commonly discussed topic. However, you may also wish to check the CPU/GPU usage using a monitoring utility to make sure that you don't have some preferences that are restricting the full usage of your hardware. There are a number of ways to check this; with GPU you'll need a third-party utility, such as GPU Meter. For CPU, you can check Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (OS X) or the equivalent utility in Linux (name escapes me at the moment). You should also check your preferences to make sure that they are set to use all the CPUs and GPUs you want, and any restrictions you want to place on them such as not running at certain times of the day or when the computer is in use. Welcome aboard, hope everything is working as it should--I would also encourage you to look at the other projects, as there are many organizations out there who would appreciate a donation of your computation time. You can run multiple projects, and allocate resources to each of them as you see fit. My Detailed BOINC Stats ![]() |
