Hello, I have a little problem with BOINC lately. I'm running tasks from Einstein@Home on a Macbook with OSX 10.9.2 and Boinc 7.2.42. The problem is that there are times where no progress in some task is made. The counter for the computation time runs but the percentage remains the same (sometimes over days). Then suddenly all is back to normal and the task gets completed. Because of the no progress periods I can't make the deadline sometimes. Restarting Boinc doesn't help, nor does reinstalling it. Thanks for any help. |

Not all project apps report progress constantly, Seti AP OpenCL apps only show progress every 0.9%, some of Einstein apps are like that, But have a lot larger increments, they may only report 0%, but are actually somewhat further on and will eventually show progress, Boinc 7.2.38 also introduced a feature where if an app doesn't report any progress done, it'll estimate it instead, that may mean Boinc starts displaying progress, then the app starts reporting progress, Boinc will then switch to it's progress reports (backwards normally) Claggy |

I'm not sure that that information explains it. Perhaps some more detailed observations I made: Sometimes a task shows steady progress for some days, than suddenly there is no progress in days and than steady progress is made again. The speed of the progress before and after the "break" seems identical. Sometimes there may be a 6 day break at like 70% an than it finishes over night. Before the problem occurred I almost never had any problems to finish tasks until the deadline, now its often very close. |

Sounds more like a project application problem, rather than a Boinc problem, best take it up there. I had a look at voerdus at Einstein, but his computers are hidden, and hence his completed tasks are hidden, so no application evidence. Claggy |
