I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the client. It works for several hours while I am using the computer, successfully pausing and restarting when I use an exclusive app, but randomly dies while I am away from it. I have verified that none of the projects I am participating in has the "pause while idle" preference set.

There is nothing unusual going on in the system.log at that time or when I first noticed this around 26 September. The only change of note was a firmware update detailed as follows:

There is no entry in the CrashReporter.log or HangReporter.log.

It looks like a total reset is in order, at least, if not a complete purge of the current data.

A quick update:

Several attempts to reset projects and continue didn't work. When the data folder gets to that state, nothing less than an uninstall and purge of the "BOINC Data" folder will fix it.

In my case, I don't think it is cause for concern for the developers. It was just a matter of accumulated cruft over six years of upgrades.

It does puzzle me, though, that these freezes and crashes never showed up in the system CrashReporter or HangReporter logs. When I looked at the stderrdae.txt and stdoutdae.txt files before I trashed them, minor crashes and hangs had been going on for the past ten months or so.
