I am using the BOINC for the first time once the first task started it keeps running on and on far beyond 100%, estimated time remaining n/a. What might me the issue? How do I know the project is running correctly?

Which project?
Which science application for that project?
Which BOINC version?
Which operating system?
Have you asked at the project if this is normal?
Have you tried to exit BOINC and to restart it?
