Since I've upgraded to BOINC 7.0.31 from 7.0.28, the application uses up so many resources running in the background that I constantly get the spinning beach ball whenever I'm using another program. My CPU also overheats to 150 degs. no matter how little I set the CPU usage preference to. Tried uninstalling and going back to 7.0.28 but I get error message saying I have a newer version installed. Any help appreciated. |

Forgot to tell my system. It is OS X 10.8.3 on an iMac mid-2011 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 with 16 GB RAM. |

If your CPU is getting that hot, it has problems. Then either the cooling fan has fallen off, or it's completely clogged up with dust. It doesn't matter which BOINC version you install on that, that won't help. It wouldn't help anyway, as it's the science application by the project doing the calculations of the tasks that makes the CPU run hot. So you should open up that Mac and take a look inside. Or if you're not comfortable with doing so, find someone who is. |
