Downloaded to help with the SETI application 2 nights ago, and ever since then my computer will shut down repeatedly for no apparent reason. It did today when I was taking the time to read an article on a site I surfed. Is this normal or do I need to change a setting somewhere? Don't want to uninstall, but may have to if my system won't stay on even when in use. |

Nevermind, uninstalled. When they get here I'll know and will be prepeared because I have been since the day I was born. Maybe I can get this to work on my system one day, but until then...."Keep looking up" |

What kind of system? Windows, Mac or Linux? What CPU? What GPU? What Power Supply does it have? Did it Blue Screen when it shut down?, What does the Event viewer say? Are you sure it just didn't go to Sleep? Claggy |

To be able to run on the system, you do need some precautions. Running science applications under BOINC will increase the amount of thermal heat that your CPU and possibly GPU will spew out. So your system needs adequate cooling, plus it needs to be cleaned out every so often to get rid of the dust-bunnies. Added to that, it could also be that your power supply is too low for the machine. But we don't know that without more information on the actual machine, or the messages that your Windows will have recorded about why the computer shut down prematurely. If you don't want to hunt all that down, I understand. |

Has anyone thought that the participant in BOINC might be an absolute layman who happens to have an internet connected computer : That is up to the project to show you. BOINC is just the tool to keep your computer busy. You can visit the "Your Account" page of the ABCatHome project and review your completed tasks but that won't show you the exact Output. There is a good explanation on the start page (top right): section "ABC INFO" to get you started. |
