I don't know if this is a BOINC "problem", an Oracle "problem" or an LHC "problem", so I'll start here. This machine is a quad core running Windows XP. NORMALLY, it runs four BOINC jobs which I can see on the Windows task manager. I noticed that the BOINC_VM which has Oracles Virtual Box software running, is showing in the gutter as "Running", yet BOINC Manager shows it as "Waiting to run" (LHC Test4Theory job). The Windows task manager shows four other BOINC jobs running, as does BOINC Manager, (a climate, an Einstein, a POEM and a Docking). I suspect the switching between tasks is wasting some CPU time, although not a huge amount, so it is probably not a big deal, but it is wrong, and worth noting. Version numbers would be nice, for the BOINC version and the VirtualBox version. And when the latter isn't 4.2.8, that you upgrade (as is required by the people at T4T). But other than that, you don't make clear what you see, or expect to see, or don't see, or want to see. Do you want to run 5 threads on a quad core? Or do you see 5 threads on a quad core? How many threads is the VM allowed to use? Are there any multithreading apps in the bunch? etc. |

Forget it. Why? If you're worked out that it's because of an old Boinc or VirtualBox version, then tell us so. Claggy |

>>> Why? Because Jords approach irritates me and I choose to look elsewhere. Before my illness, I could cope with it, but my brain was damaged following my heart attack, and now I can't. Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

Suits me. Another day has gone by, and you still haven't said what Boinc version or what VirtualBox was installed. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=5925 Claggy |

Indeed so, the reason being that following the response from Jord, I said "Forget it" here, and posted my observation at LHC, who were able to politely comment/explain the observation I'd made to my satisfaction in no time at all. It is/was a fairly trivial observation, forget it. Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |
