Have a question for you all. I recently go a free PC from a Co-worker and all I had to do is get a hard driver for it. Well I did, its a 160gb driver and I am running Ubuntu 11.04 and running Boinc 6.10.59. My question is how can I let BOINC use more computer space. I would like this PC just to be a BOINC Machine. How do I do that. THanks! |

I am not sure what you mean by "space." Do you think that "space" will speed up your computer? Speed is primarily limited by the CPU chip that comes with your computer. Are you talking about memory chips? Some projects do require more memory than an old computer would have, and sometimes you can add more memory chips. You certainly don't lack storage space on a 160 GB hard drive. IMO: That is a 100 times more storage space than you could ever realistically use for BOINC. Computer: Model #: HPE-510t CPU: Intel Core i5-2500 quad-core processor Memory: 8GB DDR3-1333MHz Video: 1GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce 405 [DVI, HDMI, VGA adapter] ![]() |

I was simply trying to point out that if he only wanted to use his computer for BOINC he didn't lack hard drive 'space"! If he only has five times more "space" than he could realistically use, my point still stands. We need to know more about what question he is asking. If he was really worried about storage space then you are correct. |

We have yet to receive a reply explaining what he meant by "space." I was assuming he had a question about hardware. If you re-read my initial reply to ktrboston you will notice I prefaced that 100 times statement about hard drive space with "IMO." Since I didn't claim a researched fact, and since I accepted your information without argument, and since your information doesn't change the primary point I was trying to make - that he doesn't need a larger hard drive, what is your problem? |

May I request that the two of you take the rest of this 'conversation' to private message, please? It's got nothing to do with the thread. |

OK Space in not a good word. What I am trying to do is have a PC that will run Just Boinc applications nothing else. So it will do more tasks. THanks for the help folks. Sorry it took so long was away. |
