I recently downloaded the newest BOINC client: 6.10.18. Now, when BOINC begins computing, it won't suspend the computation when the computer is in use, even though the global preferences are set not to do work while the computer is in use. I've even set every one of my projects' preferences to this as well, and it still runs while the computer is in use. I never used to have this problem before.

Is BOINC still set to: "Run based on preferences"?

What about local preferences?

Is boinctray.exe running? (assuming windows)

The Manager is set to "Run based on preferences", but boinctray.exe was not running. I started boinctray.exe from the BOINC folder, and now it's working properly. Thanks!

(assuming windows)

Don't assume too much. It depends on which Windows is running for idle detection to work.

Windows 2000/XP
The only thing you need running here is the BOINC client, boinc.exe

Windows Vista/Windows 7
With BOINC installed as a service (protected application execution), you need to have running:
- either boinctray.exe and boinc.exe;
- or boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe

With BOINC installed as single user/multi-user option, but not a service, you need to have running:
- either boinc.exe and boinctray.exe
- or boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe

As soon as you stop running boinctray.exe and boincmgr.exe in either of these situations under Windows Vista and Windows 7, your idle detection will stop working.

Hello,

I have this problem since months in boinc 6.10.18 under windows 7. Sometimes boinc client don't detect when i'm using de pc and don't suspend the computation and a i have to restart the client. i tried two configurations:

- boinc.exe and boinctray.exe
- boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe

I think that the problem is client sometimes fail to detect when the user is active. Any idea?

Thanks,
Toni
