I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.2, with the NVIDIA CUDA libraries and BOINC 6.10.29 installed. BOINC Manager refuses to schedule Einstein@Home work units (which want 1 CPU and 1 NVIDIA GPU), even though there are no other GPU tasks scheduled. I have even suspended all other tasks and disabled fetching of new work units. It was previously running Collatz Conjecture GPU tasks fine (which wanted 0.02 CPU + 1 GPU). Also, another, potentially related, issue is that BOINC Manager requested an excessive number of Einstein@Home tasks - it has queued 28 of them up! This started once the previous Collatz GPU task finished and the GPU became free. I would be happy to provide more information if it will help to solve this problem. |

I would be happy to provide more information if it will help to solve this problem. One essential piece of information would be the available memory on your GPU. Einstein requires 450MB (I think), otherwise it won't start the task. However, the server looks at the total memory when allowing the download. So, with a 512MB card, that can result in a deadlock when too much graphics menory is used by other processes (or the desktop). There are several threads on the Einstein forum about this topic. If you read Einstein's forum, the MAC Cuda app has caused a spate of insufficient GPU RAM messages, probably because OS X is using it, Bernd Machenschalk was going to reduce the limit from 450 to 400 or 420, his recommendation was to abort the affected tasks and update the project to get new GPU tasks, You'll need the [cpu_sched_debug] flag turned on to see the insufficient GPU RAM messages. _ If you read Einstein's forum, the MAC Cuda app <OT> quick question does Einstein have a Windows Cuda app? thanks in advance. |
