Dear Folks, Just set up a brand new quad-core (intel Core i5) iMac running OS 10.6.2. I'm running as administrator on this system. The BOInC installer says it successfully installed BOINC. When I try to launch BOINCManager, it aborts with this error message: "BOINC Manager - BOINC ownership or permissions are not set properly; please reinstall BOINC. (Error code -1037). I've tried reinstalling three times; each time the installer reports it installed successfully. I still can't launch BOINC. What's the problem and what's the fix? Thanks! pax / Ctein |

Did the installer ask whether to allow non-administrative users to run and control BOINC? If so, did you answer Yes? |

Dear Jord, No, it didn't... ... but I just solved the problem! After I rebooted the system, BOINCManager started up just fine! Doh. May I suggest that the McOSX installer be changed to require a restart after installation, or at least throw up a notice to the end-user that a restart will be required? OK< a new issue-- the BM messages report that no GPU was found. Here are the system specs for my machine's GPU, which I believe are sufficient. Any idea why it's not seeing the GPU? ATI Radeon HD 4850: Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 4850 Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x944a Revision ID: 0x0000 ROM Revision: 113-B9110C-394 EFI Driver Version: 01.00.367 Thanks again! pax / Ctein |

Any idea why it's not seeing the GPU? Last I heard, there were no drivers yet for either CUDA or CAL/Brook+ GPUs (Nvidia or ATI) that would recognize that there is a usable GPU on there. BOINC will recognize the GPU once the drivers are available. It's something for the GPU manufacturers to solve through a driver that can. |

Dear Jord, Thanks! While it would be nice if I could take advantage of the GPU in this puppy, if nuthin's broke on my end there's nuthin' I have to worry abut fixing! I can't complain. pax / Ctein |

All preferences are set up as they were on previous system: max memory usage when active: 1024.00MB max memory usage when idle: 1904.64MB max disk usage: 100.00GB don't use GPU while active Activity: Run Always Network activity always available Have deleted and reinstalled BOINC twice, and also shut down and restarted the Mac, no change. Any one else run into this or have any suggestions? Er, I think it means: "Project has no jobs available" From their front page news, dated today: We are now recovering from a planned power outage, during which all services were off line. The workunit storage machine is undergoing a RAID resync and no new workunits will be generated until this has finished. |

Tried looking at the Seti front page for its news? They had a 24 hour power outage due to Berkeley campus doing major power upgrades (a similar one will be January 3rd-4th). The server is trying to sync the RAID and during that time they aren't making or giving out any work. Scheduled Power Outage - update |
