1) Don't have exact wording since I went back to 6.6.36. I basically get an alert that tells me I have to be entered into the BOINC master user list, or such, before I can run the program. 2) Yes, I am the only User (therefore with Administrative privileges) and yes, the box "Allow user to administer this computer" is checked. I am the only one who can log in. |

Just to confirm after the install on a Mac G5 running 10.5.8 the only message tat you get is BOINC MANAGER You are currently not authorized to manage the client Please contact your administrator to add you to the 'boinc_master' user group I do have full admin rights as the user of the machine. Have reverted to 6.6.29 |

Jruss abd briang99: Just to confirm after the install on a Mac G5 running 10.5.8 the only message tat you get is .... I had a slight delay because my old PowerMac dies. I've now replaced it with a dual-core G5, but I cannot reproduce your problem. If you have a chance, please run the following test for me and report the results here. Open the Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and enter the following 2 commands. You might want to copy and paste these; they are case-sensitive: dscl . -read groups/boinc_master GroupMembership and dscl . -read groups/admin GroupMembership For each of these commands, please let me know whether or not the response includes the user name under which you are running BOINC Manager. Another thing you might try: Run the Uninstall BOINC utility which comes with the boinc_6.10.17_macOSX_universal installer (in the extras folder.) NOTE: do not run the uninstaller that comes with the 6.6.x version, as that will delete all your BOINC Data files. Then try installing 6.10.17 and see if that works any better. If you want to return to 6.6.36, you don't need to use Time Machine. Just run the BOINC 6.6.36 installer again. You can get a copy of the 6.6.36 installer from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php Please post the results of these tests here. Jord and Charlie: Also took Charlie's advice of uninstalling 6.6.36 with 6.10 Uninstaller and then installing 6.10.17. It worked! Thanks for the help/patience. Jruss |

Using ATI Catalyst drivers 9.10 with 6.10.17, I found out that the clocks of my 4870x2 go to 3D mode and stay there all the time BOINC Manager is running. I've installed Catalysts 9.11b4 for XP and tried again with 6.10.17. The same issue occured. Using Rivatuner, I saw that the clocks running in 3D Mode, even with no work to do. Maybe the drivers have a feature of going to 3d mode when its files been accessed? (as BOINC does when trying to determine if a ATI GPU is present) Maybe the drivers recognize BOINC Application as a 3d mode application? I'm now using the <no_gpus> command to avoid this issue. |

BOINC 6.10.18 is now recommended. The new Nvidia API that BOINC 6.10 uses has a minimum driver set of CUDA 2.2, 185.85. If your present drivers are below this version, update first. If your present drivers are below this and they're the last available for your hardware, you cannot update to 6.10; stay at the last 6.6.x version for your OS. Spread the word. |
