Running Boinc client 6.6.36 (upgraded a day or two ago to be sure problem wasn't a fixed bug) Ever since running Boinc, my computer crashes at random, but fairly regular intervals. I'll leave the computer and come back to find blank screen and CPU fans running at max velocity. Reboot and everything is fine until the next time it borks. This happens several times a week, always when I'm away from the computer. This has happened consistently across several (though all PPC) workstations. I have an Intel based laptop that does not display the symptom. I'd include more info, but don't even know what might be relevant to include. The OSX system logs don't show a crash, merely that we've recovered from an improper shutdown. The Boinc manager 'messages' pane don't show anything amiss. I take that back. There are three entries in the system log. They don't help me, but might mean something to someone else. Which version of OSX are you using? I'm running OSX 10.5.8 I'll try 6.10.4 and report back. Thanks! -B |

One additional thing, seeing the comment about the fans. Have you opened up your Mac anytime lately and taken out the dust-bunnies inside? Heat can crash any computer. Dust on hardware creates lots of heat. Also, which project or projects do you run and have you noticed that it happens with any specific project's application? |

Dust on hardware creates lots of heat. On a Mac a KP/Crash will often/always leaves the fans in jet mode. I know for older units if the Open Firmware/Bios does not receive active updates from the system the fans go on high to make sure the CPU can't cook its self before someone restarts the computer. Edit Ageless I saw you post a link to a page to download the latest beta builds. The main download page is showing 6.10.4 as the latest but I saw someone saying 6.10.5 is out what would the link be? |

6.10.4 has been stable for over a day now. The big test will be if it lasts the weekend... but for now, it does seem to have fixed the issue. Thanks, -Bill |

Can you reproduce the problem with BOINC 6.10.4? It would appear that I cannot. (reproduce the problem, that is) Alpha or no, 6.10.4 has a better score for stability on my PPC systems than *any* previous BOINC client. Thanks much for the help. Regards, Bill |
