I used apt-get to install the .deb of the needed files but when I try to run boinc It crashed both clicking the icon and command line. This is where it fails.

[error] GUI RPC bind failed: 99 gstate.init() failed: -180

i'm not a linux user, in the future i may be, but i don't know anything about this issue or os. hopefully someone else can help; maybe ageless if he has any linux experience or les.

I apologize for taking so long to get to your thread. I do have a life outside of BOINC.

What version of BOINC is in the repos? What distro? You're not giving us a lot to go on.
