I have been using BOINC for several years, but I am now living out of a suitcase and have hooked up my computer to a wireless router in a hotel and can not get connected. The subject line is the error I keep getting. I am able to use the internet on this computer otherwise without any issues. Would someone suggest a resolution or possibly point me in the right direction? Jeff |

There are 2 things that you need to keep separate here: 1) Connecting to the BOINC client, and 2) Connecting to the internet. BOINC is in 2 parts: A) The client, which is hidden/invisible/not-apparent without another program to look at it, such as Windows Task Manager, or B) The BOINC manager, whose job is to relay to the user, certain information about what the client is doing. These 2 communicate over an internal port. As an easy way to remember the number, it's PI; more accurately, port 31416 With the error message that you've posted, something in your computer is blocking this port, possibly your firewall program. |

I've seen time out on the connect to client with loss or poor Internet connections. In 6.6.37+ this could result in complete GUI lock up especially if there were uploads waiting. It seems to have gotten worse around 6.6.31+. I haven't yet had a problems with the new test 6.10.0, but then I don't have CUDA and my DSL has been rather stable the last few days.
