I do some work for projects that tend to fail now and again. Sometimes the issue is with an Operating system, sometimes a Work Unit, Sometimes Boinc, and sometimes even me! It would be nice if Boinc could facilitate Restarting a Task!! Even better might be to save the tasks after set time intervals (say an hour) and enable WU rollback. |

wrong post area, but i get what your saying on the checkpoints.. But some things you can't help... only the programmers and developers can make or break a project....(money too)... it's just like a game..... some games sell because of the rep. of certain developers and some games die quick, because the was developed enough.... ![]() I recommend Secunia PSI: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ |

The trouble with constantly rerunning the same task when it fails is that you may never get rid of it. BOINC uses redundancy though, sending the tasks out to more than one computer. The results only validate when sufficient enough computers have sent back a similar result. If the task is really bad, it'll reflect that on all the hosts it has been sent to. Then the project developers can check and see what went wrong. As for saving the tasks after a set time interval, that's already done. It's called checkpointing. But not all applications checkpoint, that depends on the project and the work they do, or whether or not they use a native app or one running under a wrapper. |
