Hello, I am running a CentOS 5.2 Final box and I wish to install BOINC. I used the Berkeley installer package and installed BOINC to /opt/. As root I tried running: /opt/BOINC/boinccmd --project_attach http://boinc.freerainbowtables.com/distrrtgen/ <MY-HASH-HERE> But got the following: connect: Connection refused can't connect to local host I don't have a GUI on my server, and I can't seem to find any documentation on how to initially configure BOINC on a CLI-only server. Thanks for the help! [EDIT] I apologize for my foolishness, I've started the core daemon via "/opt/BOINC/boinc --daemon" and then ran the --attach_project command. Now I have no idea whats going on, if its working or not. I have a very paranoid box, is there any TCP or UDP ports I need to unblock? Is this project SELinux friendly? Thanks! |

You might need to include the GUI RPC password, eg. Sorry, I seemed to have missed editing my original post in time for you to view. After running the bonic core client (which I didn't know I had to run first ;)) I see the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file is now created with (I think) an MD5 hash. It seems unimportant however, as I can now access commands on the boinccmd. |

Don't worry, my account at the project has a password I use and not that long hash. After changing the password I restarted the daemon, detached my project, and then ran this command: [root@bullbox BOINC]# /opt/BOINC/boinccmd --passwd <LOCAL-PW> --project_attach http://boinc.freerainbowtables.com/distrrtgen/ <PROJECT-PW-HASH> Which seems to have worked. However, I am unsure if I need to provide my account "key" or my account password for BOINC. I assume its the account key. Now that I've set this up properly (I hope), is there any ports I need to forward/open on my firewall? Any good tips for monitoring progress? Thanks! |

I think the key is also referred to as the CPID (cross project ID). I think either the key or the account password will work. Ok. According to my project panel I have three things: My account key which "provides full access to my account": [REMOVED] My weak account key which "Provides limited access to your account": [REMOVED]_[REMOVED] And my CPID: [REMOVED]. I've attached the project with the account key and running --get_state gives this output:
I think it's properly set. But I'm unsure about this CPID you've mentioned... Maybe I should be doing that... |

The 2 Account keys are passwords, and should be kept secret. The cpid (cross project id), is public, and will get changed from time to time as you add more projects to your computer. Read about it here in the BOINC Wiki. On this board you get 1 hour to edit your posts. If you can, delete the 2 keys that you just posted. |

The 2 Account keys are passwords, and should be kept secret. I removed the last 10 digits from them, but lets see if I can edit them away completely. Thanks for the help. |

...Any good tips for monitoring progress? There's also the stdoutdae file in the BOINC (data) directory. I'm not sure about the suffix with unix, if any. It contains messages of the BOINC client that would appear in the GUI's Message tab. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) ![]() |
