Am having trouble getting BOINC to work under Linux. I am very new to Linux, but I do believe I have installed things properly.. Anyhow, I was unsure how to interpret this information: From http://boinc.berkeley.edu/linux.php If BOINC produces as error message of the form When I try and run the boinc.exe under the command line i get: ./boinc: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by ./boinc) the GLIBC version says 2.4 and 2.3............according to the BOINC website updated 04-16-07 this would perhaps be in error? Or do I need to update the version of libc? I am running Freespire 1.0.13 How do I get this puppy running...?! thx Matt |

Looking in the above referenced folder, it appears that I have libc-2.3.2.so. So, I assume I need to figure out how to get that.............used Freespire's CNR warehouse search and only found the version I currently have....word is though that CNR is kind of out of date. Will see if I can figure out apt-get...... hmmm....wonder what updating that will do to the OS? |

I couldn't find anything higher than libc 2.3.2 with CNR or apt-get...so I read somewhere that someone was having similar issues with the current Linux Client asking for 2.4....so they used the 5.4.11 version. I did the same, and have a unit running......... do I have to stick with the previous version? or is there a fix for the current Linux Client? |

What version of the client were you trying before? They used a newer version of glibc to compile for 5.8.17 (to try to equalize benchmarks between Linux and Windows). But because it didn't work on older systems they pulled it as the recommended version and put back 5.8.16 on the download page. If 5.8.17 is still up, you can grab any version from this page. In this case its just the fact Freespire is a little behind the times. Once a new version of Freespire comes out it should include a new glibc as its now going to be bassed of Ubuntu rather than Debian stable and Ubuntu already has the new glibc. So until then stick to 5.8.16 and before or switch Linux distros. |

Thanks for the tips everyone............I'm not real sure which version I originally had....I've already deleted it. After I finish the current workunit I will download the 5.8.16 and give it a go. I guess that Freespire update should be anytime now huh? hmmm already time to try to figure out how to upgrade an OS and I just got it loaded for the first time about a month ago!! Should be interesting thanks again... WE'll see if anything else comes up... |
