Hi. I just got in my new 8-way Mac Pro, and the first thing I did was load Boinc onto it.

I'm running 5.8.17

Upon starting the client, 8 CPUs are detected:
Sun Apr 22 13:21:53 2007||Processor: 8 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5365 @ 3.00GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 7] [FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MCA CMOV PAT PSE36 CLFSH DS ACPI MMX FXSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON DSCPL VMX EST TM2 MNI CX16 TPR]

However, when the benchmarking runs, it is reporting 4 CPUs:
Sun Apr 22 13:25:00 2007||Benchmark results:
Sun Apr 22 13:25:00 2007|| Number of CPUs: 4

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get all 8 cores cranking?

Thanks!

Grzzly

Simple first thing to check - what's the 'maximum number of CPUs' preference on the project you've most recently joined it to/updated from?

Thanks for the pointer. I don't ever recall setting such a thing, but found a max_cpus setting in the global_prefs.xml, updated it to 8, and things are cranking on all cylinders now.

If you update the preferences on the website, you'll find your max_cpus setting will disappear (the website will give the PC a new global_prefs.xml file with the new settings).

To do it permanently, 'your account', 'general preferences', 'edit', 8, then save, and 'update' on the PC to make the new settings file download.
