Message 118625 - Posted: 26 Mar 2026, 8:58:05 UTC - in response to Message 118505.

I upgraded BOINC from 8.2.8 to 8.2.9 and got a problem with requesting new docker work cause of disk space.
I allowed 100 GB of space and BOINC data directories has allocated 22.2 GB. After I changed the 100 GB to 120 GB, I got work.

25 Mar 22:25:29 The BOINC client version has changed from 8.2.8 to 8.2.9.
25 Mar 22:25:30 Usable WSL distros:
25 Mar 22:25:30 - Ubuntu (WSL 2) (default)

25 Mar 22:25:30 - libc version: 2.39
25 Mar 22:25:30 - Docker version 4.9.3 (podman)
25 Mar 22:25:30 Docker is present but not using the BOINC WSL distro. Some project apps may not function properly. We recommend that you install the BOINC WSL distro.

LHC@home 25 Mar 22:34:26 Scheduler request completed: got 1 new tasks

The BOINC buda distro was not working for me out of the box. No usable distro's found.
Ubuntu was and is working well with BOINC CENTRAL and LHC@home's Theory docker tasks, so I returned to my own distro.

Docker/Podman allocates some additional space outside of the BOINC Data directory when creating containers. We count this space used as used by the BOINC to not break the quota set by the user.
That is why you might see that BOINC uses more space than is allocated inside the BOINC Data directory.
Usually we remove all the outdated cache when the task is finished.
There might be some left-overs if the BOINC client has crashed, etc, and we have some mechanisms to clean up, but there of course might be some bug.
So if you are experiencing this issue, and there is really a big amount of cache used by Docker/Podman when there are no BUDA tasks - please report a bug on GitHub, and we will try to fix it.

Thanks Vitalii for your reply.
It's not a real bug, but it seems BOINC included a lot of additional space, when I use my Ubuntu distro.
Meanwhile I succeeded to install the boinc-buda-runner distro and made that the default distro.
BOINC datadir uses still 22.2 GB and with buda-distro, BOINC counts about 14 GB as addition.
BOINC does not take into account that the WSL-distro's are on C: and my DataDir is on D: (you could call that a minor bug/issue).
When I was using my Ubuntu distro, I could use podman commands like podman stats or podman images showing usefull information, but with buda podman I don't get the info I want.

P.s. On your github wiki you recommend WSL 2.5.9, but during that installation it automatically updated to 2.6.3

Thank you for pointig to that. That version just needs to be updated.
