I acquired a new computer that came with Windows 11 preinstalled. I ran Windows Update to bring Windows 11 current and the following updates were listed as successfully installed:

  • 2025-09 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5065789) (26100.6725)
  • 2025-09 .NET 9.0.9 Update for x64 Client (KB5066234)
  • 2025-09 .NET 8.0.20 Update for x64 Client (KB5066233
  • Windows 11, version 25H2
  • 2025-09 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 25H2 for x64 (KB5066613)
  • 2025-10 .NET 8.0.21 Security Update for x64 Client (KB5068331)
  • 2025-10 .NET 9.0.10 Security Update for x64 Client (KB5068332)
  • 2025-10 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 25H2 for x64 (KB5066128)
  • 2025-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 11, version 25H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5066835) (26200.6899)
  • .NET Framework Preview Update (KB5067931)
  • Windows 11 Insider Preview Feature Update (26220.7051)
  • Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26220.7052)
  • Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26220.7070)


BOINC 8.2.4 is installed but the Screensaver does not activate. If I manually bring up the Screensaver window and click on the Preview button, the Screensaver is activated and the BOINC system begins to run until the mouse gets moved.

I used the MS Chatbot Copilot to search for the Screensaver not starting and followed all the suggestions .Unfortunately, no solution resolved the problem. I am fairly sure the failure is caused by Windows 11 because no standard Windows 11 screensaver will start either.

Hopefully someone has encountered and solved this problem.

Have you tried MS or win11 fora?

According to the installed updates, you are on the Insider Preview. Unless you really need it for development and/or testing - I strongly suggest you to not take part in the Insiders Program: they have a lot of features tested there, and you can have quite a weird bugs.
In this particular case, since you don't see even the standard default screensaver, I suggest you to file the bug to the Microsoft team (I don't recall where exactly this functionality is located when you are in Insiders, but I'm pretty much sure you will be able to figure this out).
