The absolute most impactful project of all time is SETI@home. Without SETI we would not have BOINC! Also have to give a shout out to all the volunteers who ran the millions of SETI tasks looking for the 'little green men from outer space.' My second choice would be Einstein@home . The project has provided us with valuable science about black holes, pulsars, etc.. My third choice would be Rosetta@home. At one time it was the best biology project folding proteins and to predict their 3-dimensional shapes. Nowadays, the BOINC project is not used as much by the University of Washington for protein folding as it was some years ago. Available work is sporadic. |

I would put in a shout for the project I am most involved with. CPDN. While I do find it of interest, I can't summon up real enthusiasm for science that doesn't have a closer relevance to most of us. Along with that I would have to say WCG for their work on medical and climate issues. I would put Rosetta in as my third candidate. I have now probably upset a very good friend now working in Sweden his home country who spent three years doing cosmology research at the Steven Hawkins institute here in Cambridge. |

Thanks all great projects. Was looking for something where BOINC was instrumental in a real world problem being solved and most general public could relate to it, conscious that might not exist...yet. |

Thanks all great projects. Was looking for something where BOINC was instrumental in a real world problem being solved and most general public could relate to it, conscious that might not exist...yet. Several sub projects over the years at World Community Grid (WCG) have had impact on humans that helped find drugs or new potential cures and/or new information about diseases. You can click on this link to see all the current and past projects there. ![]() ![]() |
