Hello, I recently reinstalled BOINC (V 8.0.2 Windows 10) and am having an issue. I have a compute GPU installed, and before the reinstall, it was working. Now BOINC cannot detect the card at all. i tried on a different system and it didn't work either; the only difference from my previous install is having the data folder on a separate drive. I made sure my drivers are up to date, I made a cc_config file and everything. tasks still work, but the "GPU" tab under activity in advanced view is missing completely, and the event log results in no GPU being detected. BOINC was not installed as a service, so it should be able to use the GPU. I know it works for compute as well because, like I said, it was working as a compute GPU less than 3 days ago and now it wont be detected at all. The GPU in question is a R5 340x on my main BOINC system, and the other system I tried is an RX 460. My main idea is that there might be a bug that prevents GPU usage if the data is stored on a separate disk, but I'm unsure. Any help or pointers would be useful, as I only started using BOINC about a week ago and I am still new. |

You haven't reinstalled any gpu drivers after the reinstall that Boinc recognizes as a gpu. If you don't see the gpu detection in the top of the Event Log after restarting the client, you don't have any compute drivers installed. Since you mention card type being AMD, you need to install the AMD compute drivers which enable OpenCL support which is what Boinc is detecting and looking for. You can set the coproc_debug flag for the Event Log in the Manager also for any information. Your Boinc directory should also contain a coproc_info.xml file which defines the cards that Boinc detects. I suspect you don't even have that file currently. |

So run DDU and then re-install the graphics drivers without touching BOINC? |

Yes, but you need to use the correct AMD compute drivers. I don't know all that much about AMD cards and their drivers are always a fiasco. I know that they have moved to drivers called RoCm that don't support legacy hardware like your RX340. That is probably why you don't have any compute drivers now. I don't know if they still have legacy compute drivers now or not. The normal drivers that AMD promotes are only for displaying video content and are devoid of any compute components. You have to use specific command line parameters to force the installer package to install the needed compute components. You could be now in the situation that your card is too old for Boinc since the driver support evaporated. The Adrenalin drivers that AMD provides DO NOT contain OpenCL support. You'll have to use the Pro drivers. https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/faqs/PDH-INSTALL.html You can check for system support of OpenCL by installing and using the clinfo application. https://support.zivid.com/en/latest/getting-started/software-installation/gpu/check-opencl-driver.html |

I reinstalled the drivers on both systems, installed compute and radeon pro versions, and it still did nothing |

fix was putting the data directory into the same disk as the install |

In the third screen of the installer, you can click Advanced and get onto a screen where you can set which directories the BOINC programs and data directory have to be installed in. Here you can also set things like service installation and whether or not to use the screen saver. |
