I'm sorry Aleksey, I stand corrected 😉 I am no expert so when I did not find any records from the query for me something is "wrong". When reading the DNS Lookup Online and DNS Quick guide it says: It allows you to do a quick DNS record lookup and verify and troubleshoot all DNS records in one place. This way, it helps to ensure domain ownership, resolve accessibility issues, and enables seamless domain migrations. Sorry that I did not get it right! Hans S. |

I just wanted to show that no one shouldn't trust first service on Web. And you can do a simple check from your PC without any web-services. Via cmd.exe (Windows) or "Linux" console: # Get list of NS-serves of org. zone: nslookup -type=NS -norecurse org. org nameserver = d0.org.afilias-nst.org org nameserver = b2.org.afilias-nst.org org nameserver = b0.org.afilias-nst.org org nameserver = a2.org.afilias-nst.info org nameserver = a0.org.afilias-nst.info org nameserver = c0.org.afilias-nst.info # Take any server from that list and get NS-serves of worldcommunitygrid.org: nslookup -type=NS -norecurse worldcommunitygrid.org. d0.org.afilias-nst.org worldcommunitygrid.org nameserver = uhncdns09.uhn.ca worldcommunitygrid.org nameserver = uhncdns10.uhn.ca # Take any server from that list and get A-record(IPv4 address) of www.worldcommunitygrid.org: nslookup -type=A -norecurse www.worldcommunitygrid.org. uhncdns09.uhn.ca Name: www.worldcommunitygrid.org Address: 199.241.161.110 # Congrats! You check that www.worldcommunitygrid.org successfully resolving to IP address and bypass any possible cache issues with provider or public resolvers(Cloudflare/Google). |

Another day has passed and Krembil has failed to get WCG website and BOINC servers back online . Nothing posted on the Krembil/Jurisica WCG Operational Status page. Will have to see what tomorrow brings, if anything. |

It will be deadline problems very soon (for me later today), for tasks not yet uploaded and reported. So the WCG team have to extend deadlines for such tasks. Of course, nobody can download any replacement tasks either. It's really strange that the team can't at least post a short notice about the problem on the Krembil/Jurisica WCG Operational Status page. |

In reply to Dr Who Fan's message of 3 Sep 2025: Another day has passed and Krembil has failed to get WCG website and BOINC servers back online . Nothing posted on the Krembil/Jurisica WCG Operational Status page. Hardly Krembil, they’re just as much hostages to fortune as we are. As you say, sad that there’s no info but perhaps Sharknet are not telling them anything. You can bet that the combined universities of Canada are having a blue fit at the delay and putting all the pressure they can on Sharknet - after all, it’s not just WCG that’s affected by this. |

A clear demonstration of the "reliability" of relying on cloud services for critical applications (or indeed any applications). |

I haven't done tech work in a LONG time, but over 2 days seems a bit long for a DNS move. It is what it is, and we have no control over it, but kudos to Grumpy for expanding his cache. |

Not surprised... Now day 3 and another workday (5PM EDT) has passed in Toronto, Canada without them posting a quick one line line note on the Jurisica Lab/WCG status page if they are still working on anything. Website & servers not to be seen on the ether. Maybe the Jurisica tech support people have been inhaling some of that virtual ether gas? |

It's day #4, 11:16 AM Thursday morning in Toronto, still no communication on status of when or if WCG is going to return. At this point my W.A.G. is maybe next week sometime it will return. |

I just sent the following message to Igor Jurisica at WCG, as well as the WCG support address (not that I expect the WCG support adress to work either. Igor Jurisica though, have an address outside of WCG.) Hi! Do you have any estimation when WCG will be back online. The DNS change to a new IP-address did happen pretty fast, from the old 199.241.167.118, to the supposedly new 199.241.161.110. However, it doesn't seem to be any server behind that new address, capable of answering, so the only result is "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" BOINC doesn't get any reply either. Please post an update on your Operational Status tab, and/or on the BOINC message board in this specific WCG thread: 'Anything and Everything to do with (WCG) World Community Grid' People are getting pretty frustrated now, as can be seen in that thread. And finished tasks are reaching the deadlines now, so I think you need to extend deadlines too on many tasks. Take care Grumpy Swede |

Got a quick reply from Igor. He will post an update soon on their Operational Status page, at https://www.cs.toronto.edu/~juris/jlab/wcg.html (Operational Status tab) This is the reply I got from Igor: Hello Grumpy Swede - indeed - will try to post. Dylan is swamped - there are more issues than we could have anticipated. what we thought was going to be a simple moving snapshots - came back to very slow rebuilding of everything. we were told there is a hard deadline Aug 31 5pm - which did not happen either - we could have continued on the old system while the new is prepared instead. will post at least some update shortly. sincerely igor |

Hi! Look like you request worked: New posting Jurisica : September 4, 2025 Migration did run into some unexpected issues. No WU/results/credits will be lost. We will descrebe more, once we have some more time after the system is back on and running. Before we took the final backup of the BOINC database, all results had their deadlines extended by 96h, we expect to bring the BOINC database online today (Sep 4, 2025), and extend as needed until the system is operational Currently, WCG tech team is standing up DB2, IBM MQ, Websphere, and adpating Apache configuration. BOINC server components are expected to take less time to configure for operation at Nibi. We will stand up the upload/download server group ASAP so users can begin to upload results they have been holding on to during the migration, which will be credited Hans S. Just ignore, Grumpy posted some seconds before me!!😊👌 Thank You anyway, Grumpy!! |

There is a small update on the Operational Status page, to clarify that the final backup was Aug 31, and the deadlines extended 96 hours are from then. So 96 hours (4 days) from Aug 31, means that they probably would need another extension of deadlines before the system goes online. |

Thank you Grumpy for reaching out and asking. It makes it easier to deal with the downtime when I know they have a plan. In a weird funny. I got an email during the downtime saying that on the new forum (the trial one they were testing out) I'm user of the month. Probably because there are only a few of us who bothered to try it out. It doesn't have as many features as the current forum (when it is up) and isn't as easy to use, so I don't think it will go far. But hey... I'm user of the month! |

In reply to unixchick's message of 4 Sep 2025: Well, congrats to "user of the month" Unixchick. I never bothered to try it out. Maybe I do when WCG is back again. |

Well, keeping in mind, that this obviously did not end up as a "simple" migration, but became a total rebuilding of the entire system, I'm not surprised that it will take a lot longer than they predicted to come back. So, I'll spend this Friday outside mostly. A beautiful late summer day, with temperatures around +25 C. This weather will not last, that's for sure. With some luck, Saturday and Sunday will also still be mostly sunny and warm. Autumn is just around the corner. |

Hello Grumpy, With your news, I started to go outside for a walk. But now, there is a medium-heavy rain. So. here is my communication status: Trying to open the WCG website times out. (firefox) and a ping to 199.241.161.110, times out at 3+ seconds. I can successfully ping d0.org.afilias-nst.org and b2.org.afilias-nst.org . A ping to uhncdns10.uhn.ca fails. For a sanity check, I ping Ubuntu, com, sidock.si , asteroidsathome.net, and wzw.tum.de All of those are successful. Still raining here. Enjoy your walk!! Jay |

Finally, at least a working connection to the new WCG website/IP-address. No content though, other than this message: 503: Service Temporarily Unavailable during Migration to Nibi Cloud World Community Grid is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. We're migrating to new infrastructure to provide you with better performance and reliability. This process should be completed shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience. Check Migration Status under "Operational Status" at the Jurisica Lab website Edit, added: BOINC is slowly coming back to life also, but so far it's only "transient HTTP error" when trying to upload finished tasks. |

signs of progress. I'll be happy about each little step. It's been too hot to run much BOINC on my machine anyway. |

That was not a migration for sure. It became a total rebuild of the entire system. Even if they come back online soon, I'm sure that there will be a long time before every problem are solved. Remember the migration from IBM. It took months before the system came back, and every problem wasn't solved before this migration. ZZZZZ (sleep, snore, repeat). |
