And now (in UK) the news fills with waffle about whether Labour should have a leadership contest or not. |

How about new elections? |

How about new elections? Why would Labour call new elections when they are likely to do badly? I know Reform and some Tories are calling for them, but there is no constitutional requirement to call one. I think Labour will claim the precedent of the Tories changing leaders four or five times without calling an election gives them a little leeway. I suspect at the last general election, the Tories were pleased to lose because they knew whoever won would have to deal with the mess they left and thought one term wasn't enough time to turn things around meaning Labour would then at the end of five years, get all the blame. (That doesn't mean there isn't a lot I think Labour could have done a lot better!) |

In reply to Dave's message of 23 Jun 2026: I think Labour will claim the precedent of the Tories changing leaders four or five times without calling an election gives them a little leeway.True, but Labour were calling out the Tories each and every time then and saying they wanted general elections. So now that they're in that same boat, they should do what they demanded, right? |

I agree they should. I will be extremely surprised if they do. The only real reason they should is their calls for the Tories to do the same. There is no constitutional reason for them to do so. |

https://londonlovesbusiness.com/councils-order-homeowners-to-remove-air-con-as-temperatures-hit-40c/ https://www.thesun.co.uk/money/39541505/councils-order-homeowners-rip-air-con/ Planning officers from councils have ordered some residents to remove the air conditioning units over fears they emit too much carbon dioxide and should only be used as a last resort, The Telegraph has reported. Its net zero crackdown comes as part of building regulations that state that “active cooling”, such as using an air con unit, should only be used after all “passive methods” such as opening the window have been exhausted.I have all my windows closed, as it's 36C outside, and 'just' 27 inside. These planners are crazy. Opening a window will make it worse inside. And how does aircon emit CO2? The electricity it consumes may be from a power plant that uses fossil fuel to burn and emit CO2, but the system itself doesn't. Are these planners idiots? |

Are these planners idiots?Yes. The law does not support their actions. Sadly, some of these people do not have the money to challenge these court decisions. |

In reply to Jord's message of 25 Jun 2026: Are these planners idiots? Look at the demographics of who is more likely to pass from heat related illness. Now who do those people tend to vote for? Is there a connection? |

In reply to Gary Charpentier's message of 26 Jun 2026: In reply to Jord's message of 25 Jun 2026: The planners are not politicians however. Some areas they are civil servants, others such as Cambridge, planning is outsourced to a private company. |

Let me park it here, safer. Found on X, by Rupert Lowe MP. The BBC has issued an official explanation on why it has failed to cover our rape gang inquiry. |

I notice today, the boys who were given a community rehabilitation order for rape have now been given 4 year prison sentences. I hope the government will put more money into rehabilitation as more often than not, short prison sentences like these make things worse when they leave. |

Court orders were put in place banning amplified music from being played in the vicinity of 10 Downing Street for today to prevent the speeches of the outgoing and incoming prime ministers from being drowned out. I presume a symphony orchestra would be OK? |

A Mariachi marching band... |

In reply to Jord's message of 20 Jul 2026: A Mariachi marching band... That would be an excellent alternative. Either would be more pleasant on my ears than the speeches of any the property's residents over the past 20 years or more. |
