Voted Green here just over two weeks ago by post thus avoiding having to read most of the election literature pushed through my door. This year no one came round canvassing for me to detain them talking policies before telling them I had already voted.

Probably though like many in politics they are a bit slow off the mark as I have been doing it here for 22 years.

Because the socialist state of California sounds good to you? Or terrorists throwing Molotov cocktails from bridges onto police cars is a normality in this world and should be applauded or falls under Freedom of Speech? Have you seen the images of chaos and destruction caused by the rioters?

From Los Angeles, what has happened is no larger or more destructive than the party that happens when one of the local sports teams wins a championship. The click bait loving media exaggerate to draw in eyes as do the like loving social influencers. More than a couple blocks away from the downtown Federal building you can't even tell that something is happening.

Seems like our footie supporters are amateurs.

While it seems to be a bigger fire than we are used to in UK, that doesn't mean sending in the national guard hasn't made it worse.

It's still the police that are going against the protesters and rioters. The National Guard and the Marines aren't doing anything, so far.

But if they're doing anything, it's to assist the ICE employees. Maybe protect federal buildings.

The curfew covers less than 0.2% of the city. The city even a smaller percent of the metropolis most think of as Los Angeles. When the military was called in that was a call for all the professional protesters to across the country to show up. It should be rather quiet tonight as these out of state paid protesters are sitting in jail cells unable to make bail. Of course some more will be getting into the city over the next couple days. (The protesters took the bait and got marched right straight to the local - not federal - jail for maximum ease of arrest.) Since they have so disrupted the downtown where the local court house is, their bail hearings will be delayed for a week. Most of them have likely been used to an arrest being a free meal and a warm bed for the night - e.g. drunk tank. After a week in lockup and a hunk of cash held by the court and a future felony court date most of them won't be back for more.

I note that several other large cities now have large protests, but without ICE to agitate they have not drawn the president's ire or much national press attention.

The ICE in Los Angeles are no longer operating in the urban areas and have shifted to the rural areas i.e. farms. I suspect that with Rumps tariff and no farm workers to pick the crops by fall America is going to be very hungry.

Until I talked to a coworker this AM I didn't think much of what graffiti I saw Monday morning. There were a couple of large anti rump sprayed on a freeway sound wall. Tuesday I saw they had been covered in Cyrillic along with nearly a mile of sound wall. Talking to my coworker they had gone to buy gas at a local station and been approached by a Russian looking man wanting directions. Significant because this is in a very Hispanic neighborhood.

I think I now know who is paying the agitators.
