Anyone know what happened to the SETI website?
Did they decommission it without us knowing?

It's still unreachable.

As if the AI induced shortages in RAM, NAND, HDDs and CPUs and motherboard availability aren't enough, now it's optical fibre.
Apparently AI datacentres require 36 times more fibre than what is required by normal datacentres.

Major Chinese optical fiber manufacturers have booked orders stretching into early 2027, as AI data center construction drives demand growth that the supply chain cannot match
...
Data center fiber demand grew roughly 76% year-on-year in 2025, according to CRU data cited by various industry publications, and the segment is projected to account for 30% of total global fiber demand by 2027. In 2024, that figure was below 5%.
...
Unfortunately, manufacturing optical fiber preforms, the glass rods from which fiber is drawn, is a technically demanding process with high barriers to entry. New preform capacity typically takes 18 to 24 months to build, according to industry sources cited by DigiTimes, which limits near-term supply regardless of how quickly downstream cable production can scale.

Compounding the bottleneck, manufacturers have shifted production from standard G.652D fiber used in telecom networks to higher-margin G.657A fiber suited to AI data centers and drone applications. That reallocation has created secondary shortages in conventional telecom-grade fiber and contributed to broad price increases. Global fiber prices have risen roughly 70% from a 2021 trough of $3.70 to approximately $6.30 per fiber-kilometer.
And we are yet to feel the impacts of the of the disruptions already caused by the goings on in the Strait of Hormuz, and the longer it takes for things to be sorted out there, the greater those impacts will be
We are living in a seriously f($#^@)*# world.

Severe glass shortages push cable lead times out to a full year.

What happened to Stop, Look and Listen before crossing?
Witness describes septic truck crashing into train in Virginia; driver seriously injured
Video embedded in article.
Video shared with WAVY by (a) viewer shows the truck starting to drive across the track when the train collided with the rear of the truck, splitting the tank from the cab and sending both into a nearby ditch. Contents from the tank can be seen spilling onto the ground.

Things are not going good for Willy @ BOINCstats.

Everything is moving so fast.
It is all happening so quickly now. The tumor is increasingly pressing on my nerves.

My right leg has completely stopped functioning, and I have very little movement left in my left. During the day, I am now in a wheelchair, I am no longer able to transfer independently to my bed, the toilet, or another chair. Instead of tablets, I now have a morphine pump set to a fairly high dose, which leaves me feeling drowsy throughout the day.
My wife is helping me as much as she can, but the speed at which this is unfolding is difficult for both of us to process.

In the meantime, the website has been officially handed over to the new team. They still have a lot to learn, so I kindly ask you to be patient with them.

Should "Robots" be allowed as 'carry-on baggage' or as a 'paid traveler' in it's own assigned seat?
Southwest (Airlines) Bans Humanoid Robots After Viral Passenger Flights
The viral flights that triggered the ban
The policy shift follows a high-profile flight involving Aaron Mehdizadeh, founder of The Robot Studio in North Dallas. Mehdizadeh purchased a standard passenger seat on a flight from Las Vegas to Dallas Love Field for Stewie, a 3.5-foot humanoid robot typically rented out for events.

To clear TSA security, Mehdizadeh equipped Stewie with a smaller battery. The robot then walked through the terminal and boarded the plane under its own power, drawing stares and photos from stunned onlookers.

“Most people were very excited to see a robot flying and provided so much entertainment, and it was great,” Mehdizadeh said, according to CBS News Texas.

However, the mid-flight reality created an unexpected logistical puzzle for the flight crew. Because Stewie was technically classified as a carry-on item, it was not supposed to occupy a seat. Crew members ultimately disconnected the robot’s battery and relocated it to a window position to allow the flight to proceed.

Stewie’s flight wasn’t an isolated case. On April 30, Eily Ben-Abraham of Elite Event Robotics brought a robot named Bebop on a Southwest flight from Oakland to San Diego. That flight was delayed for nearly an hour when the crew noticed the robot was seated next to an aisle, violating airline policy for large carry-on items, and raised concerns about its power source.

The hydraulic pin holding the tower arm in place did not retract.

If that can be fixed tonight, there will be another launch attempt tomorrow at 5:30 CT.

If high fuel prices were not bad enough, now this.... Be ready to pay for your next upgrade or new rig by mortgaging your house!

Record-high pricing pushes SSD and memory makers to borrow $880 million just to afford buying chips — Adata, TeamGroup, and others take on substantial debt to survive shortages
Several Taiwanese memory module manufacturers, including Adata and TeamGroup, are collectively raising more than NT$28 billion (approximately $880 million) through convertible bonds, syndicated bank loans, and private share placements to fund chip purchases, according to a report from Taiwan's Commercial Times. The fundraising reflects how expensive it has become for downstream companies to maintain adequate inventory as DRAM and NAND flash contract prices continue to rise quarter after quarter.

From the you can't make this stuff up department:
Dog Shoots Woman With Shotgun Outside Nebraska Gas Station, Police Say
* A dog accidentally discharged a shotgun inside a truck parked at a convenience store in Nebraska, injuring a woman nearby in traffic.

* The woman was struck in the upper right arm by a pellet, but her injury was not believed to be life-threatening, and she was taken to a medical center for treatment.

* The incident serves as a reminder of firearm safety, highlighting the importance of ensuring firearms are unloaded, properly secured, and stored safely, especially when traveling with pets.

I read that and wondered if the owner of the car, dog and shotgun, if one and the same person, would get punished for this, or is she punished enough already with her wound and hospital bill?

Most likely not. All depending on the "interpretation" of the criminal codes (laws)

Nebraska State Law 28-1212.01.
Unlawful discharge of firearm; terms, defined.
For purposes of sections 28-1212.02 and 28-1212.04:

(1) Aircraft means any contrivance intended for and capable of transporting persons through the airspace;

(2) Inhabited means currently being used for dwelling purposes; and

(3) Occupied means that a person is physically present in a building, motor vehicle, or aircraft.

Don't know the details of how the law would view such a thing in UK but a, "few" years ago when I was in the UK forces, if I had been caught being so lackadaisical with a loaded firearm, I would not have passed go or collected two hundred pounds!

...and that would be a mere pittance compared to the "friendly advice" offered by the rest of the squad.
