Could be worse, you could just check the first forum, see nothing new, switch to another forum and everything is down for maintenance. Had that here yesterday đ |

Scary. Received this morning what I thought was confirmation of a hospital appointment, instead it was a discahrge summary from the hospital. Cause of admittance - Type 2 respiratory failure. The next line made me sit up. A CT scan suggested likely heart failure (possibly cor pulmonale) with bilateral pulmonary effusions and ascites. He had some electrolyte disturbances. I was given a Zimmer frame at the hospital - it was okay to use on flat smooth surfaces but in the real world - IMO absolutely useless. 2 wheels & 2 legs? Sent it back after a week as ordered & received a Rollstor - much better. 4 wheels, brakes & a seat if get tired or breathless. Missus loves it as it means I can go out shopping with her ( I'm guessing that's only because when seat lifted there a a nice small shopping bag attached to the frame). No matter it gives me back mobility. What a comedown from 44ton driver to Zimmers. Can't complain though - still breathing. |

Some people have performed a rather disgusting modification to those sit-on trolleys, a modification that may best be described as "for waste disposal"....... |

In reply to robsmith's message of 4 Aug 2025: Some people have performed a rather disgusting modification to those sit-on trolleys, a modification that may best be described as "for waste disposal"....... That'll teach me. DO NOT read forum posts while drinking coffee at the same time. Using another K/B. After cleaning the other one, hope it dries out & no damage done. |

In reply to Grant (SSSF)'s message of 13 Aug 2025: So, what is going to used in place of GtiHub for development now that M$ is taking it over completely & rolling it in to their AI division? In his personal X (formerly Twitter) post announcing his resignation, Dohmke teased that future projects may include a new GitHub successor. Tom's Hardware and other sources. |

I have to agree with what others have mentioned in the previous linked article about the fate of GitHub ... Some internet speculators have become wary of the future of GitHub now that it is becoming fully wrapped into Microsoft. Past acquisitions, such as those of Skype and Xamarin, serve as examples of companies and programs that Microsoft has since discontinued. Some fear GitHub may face a similar fate if it is not rebranded and Teams-ified instead. The future of GitHub is uncertain, but Microsoft is highly unlikely to discontinue the operations of the cornerstone of modern coding. I don't trust Micro$oft to completely abandon or monetize GitHub. |

I don't trust Micro$oft to completely abandon or monetize GitHub. I disagree - I do trust Micro$oft to monetise GitHub, then a few years down the line abandon it. |

After most people had abandoned it due to the steaming mess it had become...I know, If I had a piece of Software to put in the public domain, I would be looking at moving my development of it elsewhere. I hope that BOINC does this as soon as is practicable. |

Glory: Glenn logged in to Oxford and rebooted the server running main.cpdn.org. I had suggested this was above and beyond the call of duty on a bank holiday weekend but I see from an email he needed access to the machine ;) |

Borrowed from the nixCraft Social Media page: "if you are not happy single, you won't be happy in a relationship. true happiness comes from chaining together obscure `sed` and `awk` commands to parse a log file, not from someone else." |

From another thread A clear demonstration of the "reliability" of relying on cloud services for critical applications (or indeed any applications).I have another example. I have 2 IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers) each capable of holding 1,000 litres of water from my roof. This summer, the design fault in my system became very clear. It doesn't work without rain. |
