Hi All, I'm having a heck of a time recently with GPU tasks on my Mac Pro (dual D700's). It was crashing regularly with Einstein@home, so I disabled GPU work for it, and then turned on GPU for seti@home, but that seems to do something similar. Anyone else seeing this? I had no problem with Sierra (10.12), but since 10.13, I haven't been able to reliably run any GPU tasks and not have the machine crash. Thanks! -Staze Systems Administrator |

What BOINC version are you on? There were some MAC specific BOINC updates related to GPUs memory. |

7.8.6. Which last I knew was the latest (still shows as latest on website), unless there's a beta that I'm unaware of. -Staze Systems Administrator |

There is a beta - please feel free to try it. Betas are always listed at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php - a small 'All versions' link on the main download page. Current beta version is 7.9.3, to be replaced by 7.9.4 in the next couple of days. There's a significant fix to the appearance of one of the dialogs in 7.9.4, but it's cosmetic only - so far as we know, it works properly. Until you tell us different... |

Are there beta release notes anywhere? I've got 7.9.3 installed at this point, but curious if there's anything in there about GPU fixes, etc. Thanks! -Staze Systems Administrator |

I don't remember anything recent, but we are pulling up patches from as far back as June last year - the v7.9.2 list is a long one - so worth looking. |

Machine just crashed with 7.9.3, so whatever it is isn't fixed in this version. Pretty sure this is an Apple bug rather than boinc, but who knows. Wakeups: 45001 wakeups over the last 29 seconds (1558 wakeups per second average), exceeding limit of 150 wakeups per second over 300 seconds Wakeups limit: 45000 Limit duration: 300s Wakeups caused: 45001 Duration: 28.88s Looks like this might be the problem - I don't know a lot about this stuff, but 1000-1500 system wakeups per second? Something's off. It might be the GPU driver as you suggested - in which case there might not be much you can do unfortunately. I know that PrimeGrid doesn't allow one of its more intensive programs to run on AMD/ATI graphics cards on Macs due to "an Apple driver bug" - perhaps it's related to this issue. ![]() |
