You can attach to an unlimited number of projects (assuming you are running 4.45 or later). If you attach to more than your computer can handle BOINC will adjust by only having work from some projects on your computer at one time.

One note the more projects you attach to the lower queue you need. This is because your queue setting is effectivly multiplied by the number of projects.

How many projects can I attach?

I would expand on that a little ... :)

There is more information in the Wiki in the "How-To" Guides ... which we add to as we learn and have time to write ...

*MY* advice is that you consider how fast your computer is, and what projects are of interest to you.

I now have a selection of 8 as you can see from my signature below. But, my slowest computer is a 2.8 GHz P4 with 1G RAM ... not a super system, but pretty fair still. My high end systems are in the 3.4 GHz arena with dual Xeon processors. So, I can tackle more work reasonably.

With that in mind, I like to have about 5 projects per system. My minimum would be 3 ... Why? Because there are times when several projects go off-line at the same time. Including one black day when I was down to only one "live" project (Predictor@Home) ... However, I had plenty of work and did not idle any system, but, for me, a close call.

We talk about fully applying our systems but you also have to consider how much work is practical for your system to accomplish. If it is older or slower, will not be on 24/7 (like mine), then 2-3 projects with short run time work units is more practical ... dial-up or DSL/Cable, again, I would not recommend Einstein@Home for dial-up as the work unit file is 10M, CPDN work takes months ... granted the deadline is a year and you do get "trickle" credit ... but ...

So, hopefully you can see that it is not a simple thing ... we can offer better advice if we knew more about what you were interested in, science wise, and what skills you have, and what your computer is ...
