Joshua Nicoll Send message Joined: 7 Jul 16 Posts: 11	Message 77601 - Posted: 25 Apr 2017, 21:13:28 UTC I have the screen saver disabled (that that this stupid update didn't reset all my settings and drive me a little bit back towards Linux honestly) but it did break BOINC massively. The client is stuck at the connecting to local host part, it will not start up at all. I have to uninstall the client and reinstall, where it works until I reboot or shut it off and turn it on, in which it become broken again. The client is running in task manager gobbling up 30% of CPU utilisation and not doing anything. I would love to give you the event log but it's empty and nothing works on the client anymore. I don't think this can be fixed by suggestions so consider this more of a bug report than a request for help persay, unless someone knows what is exactly causing this in which case I'll be your best friend for all eternity. UPDATE After closing the task in task manager, the event log becomes populated with this lot of into. See if you can get updated drivers from the manufacturers web site and reinstall. Seems to happen a lot with Win10 updates. The drivers are A-OK, I often switch GPU's, but they work fine as this is also a gaming PC. When I tried the uninstall and reinstall trick the first time the GPU's weren't detected correctly but the 2nd and 3rd times they where. The error logs are hung up on the GPU drivers, but this problem prevents BOINC from even initialising, it gets stuck on the communicating with local host issue. The SETI@home project can't even load, and the software is VERY buggy while in this state. ID: 77606 ·

The drivers are manually installed and uninstalled when updates, windows has no control of that. The drivers work fine, boinc just still not work unless uninstalled and installed again. On next boot it's broken again. This is not a computation driver issue, but perhaps windows has changed it handles said drivers and boinc gets confused. The GPUs are an R9 380X overclocked balls to the wall 1220MHz core 1750MHz memory and an Intel HD530 iGPU with a system wide 2.5% overclock, I tried stock and it still didn't make any difference. Maybe it's just a racecondition, at least it's know on Linux, where the drivers at times do not fully load before boinc is launched. Stop client and start again does remedy the issue, at least on Linux. The client is completely locked on booting, constantly using about 30% CPU according task manage.
