For some weeks now, I activate the flight mode of my phone in the night, when I sleep. I recognized, that the Android BOINC client does not work then. But in my opinion it should! Or at least I want an option to turn crunching on, while the phone is in flight mode. |

Maybe you don't have enough work downloaded to crunch through the night. |

I definitely have work - I checked this several times ... I noted the progress of the tasks before activating the flight mode and checked it again in the morning: The BOINC client did nothing during the whole night. |

Why use flight mode? What are you trying to save here? Is it that the device isn't plugged in during the night? |

Why use flight mode? I use my device as alarm in the morning and so it's placed on the bedside locker and plugged in during the night. As I want to avoid all the radiation next to my head, I put the phone into flight mode. I "just" want to save my health. ;-) |

Can you try to run one night without setting the phone to flight mode? See if that makes a difference? |

Did you try turning WiFi on? I usually turn my phone into airplane mode with WiFi at work, because the cell signal inside our building is very weak to non-existent, and my battery drops like a rock. But, I can use WiFi for calling, texting, etc. so I don't see any loss of capabilities. The WiFI radio is a lot lower power than the cell radio, if that meeds your "needs". I tested it one night without flight mode again: BOINC client has crunched. Also I tested one night with flight mode, but WiFi on: BOINC client has crunched too. So it seems it does not work with "full" flight mode. But as there is work available, why does it not crunch?! |

Probably because "Flight Mode" is a sort of "almost awake" mode, where not only are the comms turned off, but the device dozes due to lack of screen/finger activity. Turning the WiFi on might just be providing enough heart-beat activity to prevent this slumbering mode to be active. |
