I recently added the Boinc system to my Android and everything was fine with several data sets being computed successfully. On Sunday, I noticed that instead of the usual 4 or 5 data sets being worked on, when a set was completed, it wasn't replaced with a new one. When all of the sets were completed, the GUI simply states that there is "Nothing To Do Waiting for tasks.." I tried to reset the system, but every attempt to contact the server, it gets deferred for 5 minutes...after 5 minutes nothing happens. When I reset the system, it makes a mention of several tasks but no new tasks appear and the previous tasks are cleared off (although I did get credit for them). Is this simply a lack of available tasks or am I missing something basic? My regular PC based BOINC is working great (as it has for the last 12 years or so), it is just the Android 6.0.1 that is being troublesome. Any ideas? |

Depends on the project you added. Are you sure, have you checked in other words, that their server is up and giving out tasks? |

Still no new tasks for the SETI project. Not sure how to check if the server is online (I know the regular PC based Boinc/Seti is up and running). When I try to update, the Server defers the communications for 5 minutes then does nothing more. The main SETI site doesn't mention anything about any problems and this is my first shot at using the Android app. I tried to add new projects but I never rec'd the Bam.boincstats.com response to register for their services and was unable to complete my registration to their site. It started off working great but then simply quit giving out new work units. I guess the server must be down. Jim |

No, the SETI server is up and running. The 5 minutes (and 3 seconds) communications deferral is their standard value, allowing other users time to take their turn at the trough. If you ever see any time other than five minutes, it would indicate that something was wrong - most commonly a 1 hour comms deferral during the scheduled maintenance every Tuesday morning, Pacific time. |

it is just the Android 6.0.1 that is being troublesome. What Boinc version?, and what does the Boinc startup say in the Event Log? Claggy |

There are problems with BOINC 7.4.51 (recommended available from the Google Play Store), amongst other things it's reported that this version doesn't ask for work, or when it does, it cannot get work because its CPU isn't detected or misdetected. The solution? Go back to BOINC 7.4.43: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_7.4.43.apk (I have reported the problems to the developers, thus far they've not done anything with the information. Maybe that they're too busy with their day-jobs, I don't know. Communications have been hampered since the governance model anyway.) |

The developers have come through and released a new version, 7.4.53, if you can try what that one does? If it doesn't work you can always return to 7.4.43. |

I've been having the same problem on my Android even after updating to the latest version. I tried using the link above to download the older version but my phone couldn't open it. |

Hi Cyrano, Did you allow the installation of apps from unknown sources in the Security settings of your phone ? It's turned off by default. |

I've been having the same problem on my Android even after updating to the latest version. I tried using the link above to download the older version but my phone couldn't open it. Have the same issue on a Pine64 board with Android 5.1.1 installed. Downloads from unknown sources is allowed and the package downloaded but I can't get it to open. |

Download or 'Installation' from unknown sources? (using APK installer to actually execute the apk package) Coelum Non Animum Mutant, Qui Trans Mare Currunt |

Download or 'Installation' from unknown sources? (using APK installer to actually execute the apk package) Installation. Downloaded it from 3 different mirrors. Still won't open. |

My point is, there is no 'Download from unknown source', there is an 'Installation from unknown source', [on my KitKat through Marshmallow upgrades]. Do get a warning though to say it's not allowed, often then offering to open the settings to quickly flip the switch. Coelum Non Animum Mutant, Qui Trans Mare Currunt |

After letting the newer version finish its' tasks I uninstalled it. I was then able to open the older version and install it. Running Einstein tasks now. |

Me too - uninstall actual BOINC Version, install BOINC 7.4.43 and add projects. Now I get Einstein and Seti Tasks, which I can't get before. Thanks, Klaus |
