I'm getting an error message from BOINC Manager saying: "You app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@Home v8." The main download page on SETI@Home homepage still has version 7.2.42 for my Linux Mint. (PLEASE keep in mind that I'm not computer literate at all, so I *beg* you to please keep the technobabble to a minimum. My techie friends never have Windows discs handy, so they first gave me Ubuntu, then Linux Mint, which has complicated my life immensely.) |

It's not BOINC that has a version 8 out, but Seti@Home has new science applications out which are numbered version 8]. Because you use an anonymous platform app_info.xml file, you either have to get rid of it to eventually run version 8 work, or you have to update the science applications to include version 8 and adjust the app_info.xml file accordingly. Eric Korpela, Seti@Home developer wrote: SETI@home version 8 has been released. This version finally gives us the ability to process data from multiple sources, including the Green Bank Telescope. That means we'll be ready for data from Breakthrough Listen when it's available. |

This is a SETI-only change, not directly related to BOINC. Since the message refers to an app_info.xml file, you (or your friends) must have installed the previous version by hand. Your best bet is to go back to the friends who helped you install the current version, and refer them to my thread SETI@Home Version 8 - app_info.xml files for upgrading Lunatics and anonymous platform (all OS) SETI is very much in a state of flux at the moment, so it may be better to wait a few days until the new versions become more widely available. Keep an eye on the SETI Message boards (though beware of a likely outbreak of technobabble). |

OK. Thanks! I'll get my friends on it in a couple of days. |
